This Sunday – Feb. 5th,
we are invited to attend church here at the 1st Baptist Church. We
will meet at 10:15 in the hall outside and attend the 10:30 service. Please
signup tonight so we can provide the church a count. I hope many of you can
attend and show our thanks for our church sponsors.
Camping (inside) at
Durant Nature Park in Raleigh
Our winter (indoor) camping trip is February 17th
– 19th at the Durant Nature Park in Raleigh. The facility has a ‘lodge’ (not fancy) which
has bunks or cots for up to 38 people.
We will be sleeping indoors. The
‘lodge’ has water, basic showers, kitchen, etc. We will be having daytime activities outside; the boys had a
great time last year. We will have an
outside campfire, etc., and then sleep in the lodge. The price for the trip will be $8.00 per participant (over 4)
for the full weekend.
Blue and Gold
Volunteers
Our annual Blue and Gold Celebration is scheduled for
February 28th. It starts at 6:00pm at
the New Fellowship Hall at the Church.
Bill Holtshouser and the Blue and Gold Committee have been working hard
developing a fantastic program. The
theme for this year is the Winter Olympics.
You should have recently received an invitation. For new scouts and parents, Blue and Gold is
our annual celebration where we have dinner, desserts, skits, Arrow of Light
and other awards and raffle off prizes. Everyone that buys a ticket (money used
to pay for the food) is entered into the raffle. Parents, siblings and other family members are welcome to
attend. We need your help to obtain
prizes for the raffle. Please contact
your employer or other contacts to see if they will donate a prize(s) to the
Pack. See or call Bill Holtshouser
(851-7656) for more information.
Friends of Scouting
Tonight we will be watching a short presentation on the Friends of Scouting. This is an annual fund raising effort for the Occoneechee council. It costs the council $120 per boy to run the Cub Scouts program. We will be asking for contributions from you to help support Scouting. In past years, the United Way has been the primary funding source for Scouting. In 2001, the United Way contributed $478,016 to the Council. We anticipate receiving $30,000 this year, which is a$448,016 decrease. Council needs your support. Council provides leader training, programs, camping facilities as well as support and guidance for our Pack.
For clarification, please note that these funds are
separate from the $40.00 Pack registration fee which will be collected next
month. The registration fee helps the
Pack pay for books, awards, badges, camping trips and other Pack specific
expenses.
