We will be
having our first camping outing Saturday & Sunday November 4-5th.
It will be at the Jordan Lake Recreational Site. You can arrive after 8am on
Saturday and will run through about Noon on Sunday. We will have activities
planned for the day and a campfire that night. We need some help
coordinating the trip, so please let me know if you are interested.
The site
is within walking distance to the lake and the bath facilities are nearby. We
should be able to fish and hike and maybe have a Ranger come by to do some
nature training or a hike. Please sign up and pay by November 1st. The cost is
$8 per person ($2 per meal if not staying for the entire weekend, free for
siblings under 5)
Our next planned event is a
bowling outing on Oct. 25th (tomorrow) from 7-8. If interested,
please sign up tonight so we can get a count. The Pack will pay for the Scouts.
The cost is $6 for any siblings or Parents who wish to bowl.
Gary Thorn, our Popcorn Kernel, will be collecting
Popcorn order sheets tonight and distributing the remaining popcorn from the Show
& Sell. Please be sure to turn in you sheets or let Gary know if you need
some more selling time. He is willing to be at the church on the 31st
(Halloween) to collect any outstanding order sheets. Popcorn orders will be
distributed on Nov. 18th at the far end of the church (under the
awning).
(OVER)
Luminaria is a special service project that Pack 201
(and most scouts in Cary) does every year.
We need volunteers to help prepare the kits on Nov 7th during the Den
Meetings and more importantly we need several parents to help fill &
transport sand bags. The Webelos and parents should come with appropriate work
clothes on the 7th. Please
sign up at the information table tonight.
(Tigers don’t do Luminaria). If
you have any questions, please see Laura Sutton or Matt Leonhard.
Historic Yates Mill Corn Grinding Tours
Nov.18, 2006 1 p.m. until 4(??)
We will be touring the Yates Mill at 1pm – the oldest Grist mill in Wake county. The tour lasts ˝ hour and you will see the corn milling machinery in operation and listen to costumed interpreters explain how the “gristmill” works. We need to pay in advance in order to reserve the tour. The Pack will cover the cost for any Scouts. A registration fee is required ($5 for adults, $3 for children age 16 and under, and $3 for seniors age 60 and over). There is a maximum of 15 visitors per tour. After the tour, we will explore the park and nature trails. Fishing is also allowed for those interested. Please sign up tonight so we can reserve the time. Religious Emblems
On Thursday October 19th,
the Crosswinds district honored the Scouts that earned their Religious Emblem
in the past year. There were over 110 Scouts that earned an award this past
year but NONE from Pack 201. If you are
interested in having your Scout work toward earning their emblem, the Pack
will cover the small fee
for the booklet. We are also looking for a parent willing to act as coordinator
for this program. Please see Matt Leonhard if interested in the program or the
coordinator role.
Cary
Christmas Parade
Pack 201 marches in the Cary Christmas parade as a
group each year. Please mark your
calendars for Saturday Dec 9th and plan to join the fun! We will have drinks and cookies
afterward. All scouts are welcome to
participate but must be accompanied by an adult. Parents and siblings are welcome to march with us. Watch for more information.
Pack 201 T-shirts are available. The cost is $8.00. Good quality shirts – these are considered Class C uniforms and
are worn at Scouting events when a full uniform isn’t necessary. These also help identify our boys in a crowd
of Scouts.
The University of Scouting (UOS) is coming on
November 11th. This is a great opportunity for current or potential
leaders or committee members. There are numerous classes for Cub Scout leaders
and the $25 fee will be covered by the Pack. If you can attend, the course list
and applications are available on the Pack table or on the pack201cary.org web
site.
Pack 201 expects every parent to volunteer for at
least one event during our scouting year. This could be popcorn, luminaria,
pinewood derby, Blue and Gold committees.
Cub Scouting is a family program, and our program is only as strong as
the adults who volunteer their time to make the program happen. Please visit the pack table
this evening and sign up for at least one activity.
